So, you’ve heard the expression, “The world is so small,” right? Well, if this story isn’t an example of this saying, then I don’t know what is.
The lead up
Matt and I skipped town last weekend and traveled to Paris with some good friends of ours. As I was getting ready for the trip in the days leading up to our flight, a friend told me that one of our mutual friends was also going to be in France during the same weekend, but for a very special reason…he was going to propose to his girlfriend!!
This was too coincidental, so I immediately reached out to Jeff, the groom to be, with this exact text: “I heard you’re going to Paris this weekend to do a thing 😉 I will also be in Paris this weekend…no pressure, but let me know if you’re interested in photos.” Subtle, right?
And so, the planning began! Jeff’s idea was to pop the question on the morning of Sunday, January 19th, in the gardens of Versailles. How dreamy?! So, we poured over maps of the gardens and narrowed our options down to two spots — Jeff would choose the final location in the moment depending on the crowds at this iconic place.
The big moment
Matt and I arrived to the gardens and took our position where Jeff was expecting to see us when he arrived with Becky. We pretended to be tourists while sneakily following Jeff & Becky through the gardens. I felt like a secret agent.
Jeff stopped in front of a beautiful fountain in a quiet part of the gardens and gave Becky a note. She read it and then Jeff dropped to one knee. I snapped away as he asked her to spend forever with him. Becky was so surprised!
As they both processed what had just happened, I came up to Jeff & Becky and congratulated them before I started shooting some sweet couple portraits of them together at this French landmark. I learned that after their Versailles visit, Jeff was taking Becky on a helicopter ride over Paris and then a dinner cruise on the Seine River. What a perfect day!
So, yes, the world is quite small. It’s always an honor to be part of these insanely special moments. Congrats again, Becky & Jeff!
