I know, I know, I say this every week. I am so excited to share Becky and Jeff’s micro wedding with you on the blog today! If you have been looking for an outdoor wedding in New York, I highly recommend you consider Storm King Tavern. It was the perfect outdoor wedding venue. Or, if you live in New Jersey or New York, it’s also a great option for a mini destination for couples looking for something a little different but not too far away. It was only a little over an hour from Hoboken, NJ. Personally, I have been fortunate enough to capture many of Becky and Jeff’s love story moments. From their Paris proposal (keep reading!) to their engagement photos in Brooklyn, it was extra special for me to capture their micro wedding. I can’t wait to photograph their larger celebration this year as well!
As I start to wrap up blogging all of my amazing 2020 couples, I can’t help but be excited for 2021.
If you are planning an outdoor wedding in New Jersey or New York (or beyond!) and are looking for a photographer, I would love to encourage you to get in touch sooner rather than later as a dates continue to book up quickly! Mile Square Moments Review
Becky and Jeff left me the SWEETEST review. I just have to share it before I gush about the details of their day a little more. Like so many other creatives, photographer’s are not known for organization. When it came to COVID reschedules, it was my time to shine. There was something almost therapeutic about helping couples through it. Despite it being a difficult year, it’s hard not to feel grateful for all of the incredible people I had a chance to work with.
Working with Devin from Mile Square Moments was the dream! Not only are her photos beautiful, but she is so professional and so fun to work with and I felt like we were in good hands every step of the way with our wedding photos. Devin was extremely flexible when it came to re-scheduling multiple times for both the wedding and engagement photos and was extremely accommodating to updating our contract and giving us a new contract when it came to scheduling multiple events.
Devin handled Covid changes with a lot of grace and really put us at ease with all of the changes we had to make in addition to our photography needs.
She is so punctual and made sure to arrive early for both our engagement and wedding photos to scout out locations. She chose great locations for both! Devin really made each photo shoot very fun and she is so sweet and has a great balance of professionalism and friendliness that will put you at ease as you take photos. Devin made sure she knew every single detail of the wedding day and what shots were needed. The spreadsheets she put together for us to fill out (including day of timeline, shot list, etc.) really allowed us to give her all the details she needed.
We had a lot of trust in Devin day of and I was never worried she wouldn’t capture what we needed.
She was on top of everything! And to top it off, we have been very blessed to have Devin capture our proposal, engagement photos, and our wedding day. We can’t wait for her to take photos at our second larger celebration! We are literally blown away by her photography and are so satisfied with all our beautiful photos. Devin is the most organized person we worked with and we cannot thank her enough for the amazing photos she took! She is extremely talented and we will continue to recommend her to anyone who asks!
It Started with a Paris Proposal
You read that right – I followed these two to Paris to capture their proposal! Technically, I found out through a mutual friend that Jeff was planning on proposing to his girlfriend in Versailles. Luckily, my husband and I happened to be there at the same time. I asked him if he needed a photographer and the rest is history!
You can actually read more about their Paris proposal on the blog post here, but I couldn’t talk about their wedding without sharing a few of my absolute favorite photos. I felt like a secret agent following them around and waiting for him to bend on one knee and pop the question. After he proposed (and she screamed YES), we took some photos in the Gardens of Versailles and in front of the Palace of Versailles. I’ve captured some pretty dreamy proposals but this one has a special place in my heart for sure!
Engagement Photos in Brooklyn
If you have been scouring the internet for engagement photo inspiration and pose ideas – look no further. Becky and Jeff took their engagement photos in Brooklyn. We had so much fun trying out different poses in front of the New York City skyline. Even though I live in Hoboken, it never stops amazing me every single time. What an incredible background.
Should you wear a veil on your wedding day?
Wear the veil! When debating about whether or not you want to wear a veil, don’t forget about the photo potential! There were so many incredible moments about Becky and Jeff’s wedding day. However, one moment that stands out for me was actually before the wedding. During the getting ready photos! Becky chose to wear a gorgeous traditional cathedral length veil which went stunningly with her modern wedding dress. Some photos we captured with Becky and her mom and sister, when she’s putting her veil on that are just so sweet. They really reflect the magic of the day.
After that, I also got a chance to sneak away and take a few of solo shots of the groom who looked absolutely dashing! Like he couldn’t wait to see Becky walk down the aisle. One modern tradition I am loving lately is exchanging letters and reading them before the ceremony. Even if you decide not to have a first look, finding a way to connect before the ceremony is a wonderful idea.
An Outdoor Wedding Ceremony in New York
Becky and Jeff chose a traditional ceremony timeline. They didn’t see each other until she walked down the aisle. When Becky walked down the aisle with both her mother and her father, she had the world’s biggest smile. Becky and Jeff exchanged their own vows and had everyone in tears. I think my favorite moment of the ceremony was when Jeff dipped Becky for the first kiss. Everyone laughed and smiled and it was just pure joy. When they walked back down the aisle, you could tell they were ready to celebrate!
A Micro Wedding Reception at Storm Tavern King
After the ceremony, the couple enjoyed their micro wedding reception at Storm King Tavern. Becky and Jeff chose a sweetheart table, which is honestly my favorite. It’s one of the few seating arrangements that actually allow the bride and groom to eat during their reception. I also absolutely adored that they tied in their proposal story to the reception decor with their cake topper! It was the sweetest thing.
Even though it was a micro wedding reception, they still brought in all of the elements of a traditional wedding. So if that’s something that has you concerned as you plan your own intimate wedding, please don’t worry. I’m starting to love them even more than larger celebrations! They still had toasts, their first dance, and more. After the dinner, they even played the shoe game, which if you haven’t played yet, is simply a classic. Then, we had a classic streamer exit!
Married in New York
When I asked Becky and Jeff what they were most excited about after the wedding, Jeff said “the end of singleness and the start of married life”. Becky said almost the exact same thing – she couldn’t wait to finally become official. I have no doubt that Becky and Jeff’s life will be filled with more adventures. I just don’t know how their next travel plans can possibly top their last trip to Paris. But I look forward to watching them try!
