Who hasn’t dreamed of jetting off and eloping at City Hall? In Jersey City, courthouse elopements can take place on a stunning patio overlooking the city. On top of that, the architecture of the old city hall is really quite pretty. It’s definitely one of my favorite buildings to photograph in front of. Alyssa and Chris were an absolute dream to photograph – fun, sweet, and excited to spend the rest of their lives together. My favorite. I had the absolute pleasure of photographing both their engagement photos in November 2019 and their intimate city hall ceremony in 2020. Plus, the larger celebration will take place in California (the bride’s home state!) this year. These two have a lot to look forward to and I can’t wait to watch them continue to celebrate each year (no pressure!).
At Mile Square Moments, we love to celebrate love. At the heart of the business, we believe in capturing our couples’ real love connection in each photograph. After all of the rescheduling and postponements in 2020, there is such a special place in our heart for couples who choose to elope or host micro weddings with only their nearest and dearest. Engagement Photography at Home
If you and your significant other love spending time at home, you’ll feel completely inspired by Alyssa and Chris’ engagement session. Although outdoor engagement photos are always stunning (and a lot of fun), it was so fitting to take Alyssa and Chris’ engagement photos in their natural habitat. The two of them love evenings in playing board games, listening to records, and just enjoying each other’s company. We still took a few photos outdoors, but honestly, the ones in their New Jersey apartment turned out to be my favorites. I’ve included a few of my favorite pictures below but for more engagement photos from this sweet session, check this post out.
The Perfect Day-Of Timeline for a New Jersey Elopement
When you are planning your elopement, you might quickly notice that you are working with a more condensed timeline. Typically, there are no getting ready photos or photos of the reception. After all, when couples choose to elope, they usually do so to spend their wedding day together. Exactly as they want. Which means throwing formalities and hours of family portraits out the window. I met Alyssa and Chris at Jersey City City Hall for their elopement at 3:00 p.m. After, we took photos of the two of them for about an hour. When you have a shorter timeline, make sure you consider the time of day with the best natural lighting. Late afternoon tends to be a great choice (depending on the time of year).
In total, Alyssa and Chris really only needed a couple hours of photography coverage in order for me to capture all of the moments (and places) that were important to them. I will never try to book couples for more hours than they need which is why I go over the timeline early on in the booking process. If you are not sure what you need – don’t worry! Contact me here and we can discuss your specific needs in order to make sure no moment is missed.
Personalizing Your Wedding Photos!
Is there any street more charming than the Jersey City pedestrian walkway? It’s one of my favorites to photograph couples walking down. Probably second only to the cobblestone streets of Hoboken. Alyssa and Chris posed as bride and groom in front of Love Locked (where they purchased their wedding rings) and in front of their favorite taco place. Who doesn’t love tacos? Being from California, Alyssa is a tough critic when it comes to tacos! However, this special place got her stamp of approval and is one of their favorite places to get tacos together. We ended on their rooftop with their puppy Mochi, so prepare for some dog photos below! He was the sweetest.
It was such a joy photographing Alyssa and Chris eloping at City Hall in New Jersey. Cheers to the next 100 years of puzzles, records, tacos and jewelry!
