I still can’t get over the autumn vibes of this one! Today, I’m sharing Allie and Phil’s fall wedding at Skylands Manor, and let me just say, it was one of my favorite weddings last year. Just two short years after Phil proposed to Allie (on the high line in NYC – where they had their first date!), their wedding day was absolutely perfect – from their sweet first look to their portraits against the fallen autumn leaves. These two are madly in love and you could feel their chemistry during every moment of this precious wedding day!
A Sweet Fall Wedding Review
I deeply and truly care about each and every couple that books me to capture their wedding day. I know how important your day is, and it’s an absolute honor to be able to document it for you. With that said, I just have to share Allie and Phil’s sweet fall wedding review. Reviews like this really tug on my heartstrings.
Devin is absolutely the BEST vendor we had. She puts so much time and energy into making your day the best it can be. She is extremely organized and asks you exactly what you want for your day. Devin checks in multiple times throughout the wedding process and makes sure the photos you have requested happen! Our engagement and wedding photos are incredible and I continue to get compliments about them! Book Mile Square Moments!!
Speaking of engagement photos, here are just a few of my favorites from their outdoor engagement photoshoot at the Met Cloisters! I had so much fun with them and this photoshoot had me counting down the days until their wedding day.
Getting Ready at Skylands Manor
I’ve mentioned it on the blog before (if you are a regular here, you know I love to share wedding tips when I can!), but I love when my couples’ venues have space for them to both get ready on their wedding day. Nobody wants to waste a minute of their precious wedding day on transportation! For Allie and Phil, they were both able to get ready at Skylands Manor and from the moment I arrived, the romance and anticipation in their air were absolutely palpable. On top of that, I also absolutely love the way they personalized their attire, with Allie rocking personalized sneakers and Phil wearing Captain America socks. It was such a wonderful start to the day!
Fall First Look + Wedding Portraits
Allie and Phil warned me that they don’t really consider themselves touchy/feely, so photos might be a challenge! In their words, “we are the couple laughing at the kissing and love scenes in movies, so if you ask us to kiss, expect at least one fake throw up face.” I was definitely up for the challenge though, and honestly looking at the wedding portraits we were able to capture, these two wouldn’t be able to hide the fact that they were madly in love even if they wanted to. On top of that, I loved the playful energy they brought to their photos. Paired with the stunning autumn backdrop and regal nature of Skylands Manor, these wedding portraits are what dreams are made of.

Every wedding day has a story. The morning of the wedding, we were nervous that the gorgeous outdoor wedding ceremony Allie and Phile had planned might need to be moved indoors because it was raining. Fortunately, the skies cleared before it was time for the ceremony, but we still needed to take the group portraits (and some of the couples portraits) indoors to avoid the rain. It’s moments like this where I am reminded how important it is to be able to think on your feet. As a wedding photographer, I need to be prepared for ANYTHING. It makes such a difference in situations like this! I had already scoped out the stunning stained glass windows and grand white fireplace so we could (quickly) take advantage of all of Skylands Manor’s most picturesque locations.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at Skylands Manor
Allie and Phil have quite a love story. They met in Austria on a college spring break trip, when Allie’s sister and Phil went to the same college and chose the same major. Allie joined her sister on the trip in the spring of 2016 and and sparked a connection with Phil during the trip. After a few dates, it was obvious they had a lot more in common and as they say, the rest is history! With the gorgeous New Jersey fall foliage as their backdrop, the two tied the knot and exchanged personal vows during a breathtaking unplugged wedding ceremony at Skylands Manor.
Marvel-ous Wedding Reception at Skylands Manor
Phil is a graphic designer and an avid comic book collector, so there were more superheroes that subtly made an appearance in their wedding reception decor! While Allie and Phil headed to cocktail hour to mingle with their family and friends, I snuck into their gorgeous reception space to capture all of the fun and elegant details that made their wedding day uniquely theirs.
Skylands Manor Wedding Reception
At the end of the day, Allie and Phil just couldn’t wait to be “husband and wife”. AND get all of their family and friends in the same room which let’s be honest, doesn’t happen often! Their wedding reception was full of joy (and surprises for their guests!) like the larger-than-life face cut-outs of Carmela and Tony Soprano and a fun comic-book-esque photo booth! Everyone was all smiles all night long.
Finishing with Film
As if this wedding day could get more romantic, I wanted to finish with a few classic film photography shots. I snuck these in throughout their wedding day. Film photography has been one of my favorite add-ons to my New Jersey wedding photography packages over the last year. Truly, the photos feel so nostalgic and timeless. That’s exactly how I want your wedding photos to feel fifty years from now. For more love stories (and my latest work), find me over on Instagram.
