Getting to know each and every one of my couples personally is one of my favorite parts about being a wedding photographer. I connected so quickly with Christina and Nick as they willingly shared so much of what makes their relationship unique, and I can’t wait to share some of their connection on the blog today. These two are so incredibly special. Their Halloween wedding was filled with as much romance as it was joy. They truly made the day their own, with moody and romantic wedding decor (their wedding colors were burgundy, black, and deep purple hues), and the two of them could not stop smiling at each other all day. If I could relive their wedding over and over again, I would!
Mile Square Moments Review
Whenever couples take a moment to pause married life and leave a review, I feel incredibly grateful. This one almost brought tears to my eyes! Christina and Nick are truly the most incredible couple and I just feel honored they felt the same way.
First came the wedding date, then Devin! Mile Square Moments was our first vendor hire for our October 2021 wedding. From the first consultation with Devin, we felt welcomed and heard.
We had ideas for photography for our wedding, which centered on wanting to feel the joy and love through our photographs, but we had few ideas about the execution of those ideas.
Devin did a wonderful job listening to us and creating a plan for the feel and theme of our wedding. She worked closely with me to decide a location for our engagement photos, which ended up being an area/location new to her, however, you would not have been able to tell looking at our photographs! Devin met with me multiple times over the phone as the wedding approached and was integral in creating the timeline for the day. She is present for ample time during the day and provided a second photographer in the package we selected.
Devin made her presence known when needed throughout the day and also blended in with the party when needed!
I have truly enjoyed working with Devin and my husband and I love our gallery, she provided so many beautifully captured and edited photographs. We are thankful for Devin and are so glad we found her.
Unique & Personal Engagement Photos
If you haven’t seen their engagement photos on the blog yet, make sure to head there first so you can catch a glimpse of how special these two are. We headed down to Asbury Park on the east coast and started their engagement photoshoot at Dunkin’ Donuts (because they are both obsessed). Christina and Nick were a delight to photograph so needless to say, I was waiting in eager anticipation for their wedding day!
Halloween Wedding Getting Ready Photos
Christina and Nick had talked about having a Halloween wedding since before they were even engaged. When I showed up to Christina’s room for their getting-ready photos, I was dying over the cute Halloween getting-ready outfits. True to her nature, we were able to make her getting ready photos a little extra personal by featuring nostalgic touches (like her wedding ring paired with her grandmother’s enhancer) and more playful elements (like the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee tumbler).
When Christina was ready, her mom helped her into her dress. This is honestly one of my favorite moments on a wedding day. Once she was in her dress, she read a letter Nick wrote to her as I snapped some bridal portraits. From there, she had a quick “bridal reveal” with her bridesmaids and then headed outside for a sweet first look with her dad!
Nick’s getting ready details were just as personal, with the custom vow book and Pokémon socks. You can tell that both he and Christina are equal parts romantic and playful and I am just so here for it. Once he was ready, his mom helped put on his boutonniere for the final touch. Then, we were ready for him to finally see Christina!
First Look Outside David’s Country Inn
Christina and Nick’s first look was one-of-a-kind. They were really looking forward to small moments together on their wedding day (they said they wanted small private moments together to take it all in). I knew they were both dying to see each other as I set them up for their first look. When they finally saw each other, the biggest smiles erupted. I loved photographing them both together and separately (I always like to sneak in some solo shots!), but even while they were standing solo, they couldn’t take their eyes off each other. So special.
We took most of their portraits outdoors but then snuck inside to take advantage of a few indoor spaces at David’s Country Inn. I loved the regal feel of the lobby. After the wedding portraits, their wedding party met us for photos in front of the fireplace, too! After that, we headed to their outdoor wedding ceremony location, snapped a few extra group shots, and then relaxed waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Romantic Outdoor Wedding Ceremony
After the photos, the personal nature of their wedding day continued into their wedding ceremony. The groomsmen handed out Halloween candy to guests on their way down the aisle. Christina walked down the aisle to a string version of the first song Nick played for her on his guitar – “Swing Life Away” by Rise Against. To make their outdoor wedding ceremony even more unique to them, her cousin officiated the ceremony and the two of them wrote their own vows. I always feel like the best wedding ceremonies leave you feeling like you know the couple even more and this was definitely that.
Halloween Wedding Decor
I know I shared some of their Halloween wedding decor at the beginning of this post, but I just have to share more below. With the exception of the wedding sign (with calligraphy from Alli Cat Calligraphy), most of the wedding reception decor was DIY! Christina’s mom did most of the calligraphy!
It was a tradition in Christina’s family to get a photo of the bride and groom on the dance floor of their wedding reception before guests arrived but I love it so much, I think we should start doing it for everyone!
Halloween Wedding Reception at David’s Country Inn
One of the things I shared in their engagement post that still sticks out to me is how Christina and Nick love to celebrate the “minutia” of day-to-day life. They love to sleep in on Sundays, run errands, get ready together, and fold laundry. Before the wedding, they said they couldn’t wait to start calling each other “husband and wife” because “boyfriend and girlfriend” have never felt like enough. They could not stop smiling throughout their reception and I couldn’t wait to watch the next chapter unfold. We are coming up to their first year anniversary and I have absolutely no doubt that love fills every room that the two of them enter.
Another quick decor note: Christina and Nick actually made the black arch backdrop for their digital photobooth themselves! Their DIY selves have no limits.
The Unique Details were the Icing on the Cake!
No pun intended…but to finish off this post about their Halloween wedding day, I have to share some of the fun (and unique!) wedding details they included on their wedding day. After the more formal wedding cake was cut, they brought out the groom’s cake in the shape of a Pokeball (with a Charizard cake topper!). In lieu of a bouquet toss or garter toss, they opted for a “Pusheen Toss”. Instead of “the next one to be married”, the lucky catcher of the Pusheen is said to be the next person to get a cat! It was truly just such a fun way to add to their celebration.
I will absolutely never get over how incredible and unique Christina and Nick’s wedding was. I was beyond honored to be a part of it. If you loved their love story as much as I did, make sure to find me on Instagram. I love sharing my couples’ love stories regularly and would love to connect with you, too!
