I’m using the words “home wedding” loosely here because Brittany and Sean’s wedding had one of the most incredible backdrops I’ve ever seen. They completely leaned into the natural woodsy vibe of the outdoors, complete with wildflower bouquets and floral bridesmaid dresses. Everything felt natural but so, so beautiful. We like to celebrate real love over here but their wedding felt straight out of a fairytale. As a New Jersey wedding photographer, I am no stranger to gorgeous wedding venues. But I have to admit, if this was a wedding venue, I would recommend it over and over again.
New Jersey Wedding Photographer Reviews
I had the absolute best time with Brittany and Sean and before I dive into the details, I just have to gush over this sweet review. I love being a New Jersey photographer, and reviews like this literally mean the world to me. I’m so grateful I had a chance to be part of their day!
I wish I could give Devin more than 5 stars! From the first time I spoke with her, I knew we were in great hands. Before I found Devin, I didn’t have a very clear plan for our micro-wedding! By discussing the plans for the day with her, I was able to start envisioning it all so clearly and it’s all because of Devin’s care and attention to detail. At our wedding, she expertly and lovingly wrangled our loved ones for portraits and my husband and me for our couple photos. After that, she was like a ninja taking candid photos and capturing all the special moments.
Devin even stayed later than originally planned in order to capture our cake cutting and was so generous and flexible with our time. My husband and I along with our families and friends were all truly blown away when we got our preview photos and full gallery soon after. We are SO in love with our photos! I am biased, of course, but they might just be the most beautiful wedding photos I’ve ever seen! I can’t thank Devin enough for everything she did for us and for the beyond beautiful work she did. Don’t think twice about hiring Devin for your wedding!!
The Knot Love Story
Do you love a good love story as much as I do? These two met while working at The Knot, one of the largest wedding planning platforms available for couples today. Brittany worked on the message boards and Sean designed The Knot app. Sean texted Brittany one day saying they should “meet up,” but Brittany wasn’t sure if he meant for a date or to casually catch up. As soon as Sean started walking toward Brittany on this fateful night in April 2016, she knew it was a DATE and not just a casual hangout. They stayed out in the East Village into the early morning hours of the next day.
After four years of dating, Sean was ready to propose. Brittany and Sean go on vacation with his family to Vermont every summer and last year Sean planned a couple days for them to take off to Burlington and stay in a beautiful hotel overlooking Lake Champlain. The first night they were there, they went for a walk and he proposed. Sean started crying before he even started talking! If we are being honest, Brittany thought she felt a ring box in his backpack a few days before but she didn’t look. It was better not to Jinx anything!
Getting Ready Photos for a Home Wedding
Often times, it can be hard to decide where to take your getting ready photos. It might seem unnecessary to book a hotel or extra location, but you also don’t want to be far from the wedding ceremony location either. Fortunately, with a home wedding, we don’t have that issue! Being an intimate wedding, Brittany had a chance to connect with her closest family before the wedding ceremony (and also had a view of the ceremony location for extra excitement!).
Backyard Wedding Ceremony
Brittany and Sean hosted their micro wedding in the backyard of Sean’s childhood home. His parents were about to sell the house, so this wedding was the bittersweet end of one chapter and a beautiful beginning of another. Brittany and Sean celebrated with their closest family and friends amongst their bright, colorful decor. They chose a rustic deconstructed arch covered with wildflowers as their ceremony altar decor and had live music playing as they walked down the aisle. The whole day was incredibly romantic.
Brittany and Sean chose to incorporate a ring warming tradition to make their wedding ceremony a little more personal. If you don’t know, a ring warming ceremony is when you pass your wedding rings around to your loved ones before you put them on each other. This way, they can infuse a wish or a blessing for the happy couple. It was really sweet!
Outdoor Wedding Photos
Brittany and Sean wanted their wedding to be bright and colorful so we brought out the natural colors in their photos! Part of my process as a wedding photographer is getting to know each couple well before the wedding day so I can bring out the chemistry that I believe naturally exists between each couple. We all have our romance, even if you spend most of your evenings getting Mexican takeout, talking about work that day and watching House Hunters International like Brittany and Sean. Actually, that sounds pretty good! I wanted to capture their comfortable, best friend, energy in the photos.
When I asked Brittany what she loved most about her groom-to-be, she said that the two of them fit together just like puzzle pieces. She said that Sean constantly makes her laugh and reminds her to slow down. When I asked him the same question, he said he loves how silly she can be. They two of them are always laughing!
Casual Backyard Wedding Reception
After their intimate wedding ceremony, Brittany and Sean had an outdoor tented backyard wedding reception. Instead of formal catering, they used their favorite Mexican Bodega in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NYC. Brittany and Sean love Mexican food! I loved the bright colors they used throughout their wedding, it added an unexpected (and somewhat wild in the best way) touch.
