Marissa and Jeff’s Hudson Table wedding was one for the books. There were truly moments when it was “all hands on deck” implementing our backup plan for the rainy parts of their wedding day (but keep scrolling – the sun came out eventually!). The sweetness between Marissa and Jeff was all worth it though, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have captured such a gorgeous wedding day for a truly beautiful couple inside and out. Marissa and Jeff aren’t afraid to get a little weird and be themselves around each other, and as a wedding photographer, that’s truly my favorite thing to witness. I can’t wait to share more about them here on the blog today!
Kind Words from this Hudson Table Wedding
It’s an absolute honor when any of my couples place their complete trust in me. I do not take it lightly. Despite the rain, Marissa and Jeff’s wedding was absolutely flawless. Here’s what they had to say!
We can’t say enough good things about working with Devin at Mile Square Moments. Our entirely outdoor wedding and wedding photos was met with rain and possible thunder on the day of, and the whole morning was constant anxiety working with our wedding planner coming up with alternatives for everything involved. The ONE thing we didn’t worry about was the photos. We made it clear from the start: Just leave Devin to figure it out, we trust her, do whatever she says.
It was the biggest relief to not have to worry about her ability to find alternate shooting locations, wrangle our challenging family members, and take gorgeous pictures. Having a photographer who knows Hoboken when you are getting married in Hoboken was a huge advantage when we needed last minute location changes. We’d definitely recommend adding an engagement shoot—not just because the photos are great, but also to build trust and feel more confident in your photos on the wedding day.
A Sweet First Look at the Gazebo in Columbus Park
It was a collaborative effort between myself and the wedding planning team to make a last-minute decision for a dry and covered portrait location on the wedding day. Instead of the waterfront at Maxwell Pier, we chose the Columbus Park Gazebo. I kicked off the portraits with Jeff’s solo shots (which is what I typically do when I’m the only photographer for a micro wedding) and then set them up for their a first look. After that, I proceeded to capture beautiful couple portraits of Marissa and Jeff. Honestly, they made it easy!
Then, to quickly transition to the venue, we took an Uber together and captured stunning group portraits with their family under “the viaduct” on 14th street, a covered area near the venue. We asked the Uber driver if he had ever driven around a wedding couple before but apparently it’s more common than we realized! He’s had several wedding couples in his car before!
To be prepared for rain, I always bring clear umbrellas with me as they enhance the quality of the photos. I find that clear umbrellas make all of the difference in the photos when we need to make the most out of the rainy conditions. With Marissa being from Arizona (and admittedly hating anything called “weather”), I wanted to make sure we made it as comfortable as possible. While rain isn’t ideal, having a backup plan and having extensive knowledge of the local area really came in handy during moments like these that require swift location changes.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at Hudson Table
Despite the persistent rain that required Marissa and Jeff to rely on clear umbrellas during the start of their ceremony, the rain miraculously stopped just in time for the heartfelt exchange of vows. It was a truly enchanting moment for the couple and their guests, who remained comfortably seated at the reception tables, eagerly witnessing these two finally become husband and wife. Naturally, after they said “I do”, a champagne toast was in order!
Gorgeous Decor and Mouthwatering Food
As a wedding photographer, I absolutely love working at Hudson Table. It’s one of my favorite wedding venues. Marissa and Jeff’s wedding was gorgeous. They blended modern decor accents, like frosted acrylic signage, with stunningly beautiful and vibrant flower centerpieces that truly brought the space to life. Hudson Table’s catering team was exceptional, leaving everyone completely satisfied. From the incredible spread of mouthwatering appetizers to the delicious main entrees and desserts, nobody went hungry.
Hudson Table Wedding Reception
When I asked Marissa and Jeff what they were most excited for on their wedding day, Jeff said celebrating with everyone over a nice meal and Marissa said she was looking forward to their friends and family hanging out together (like friend matchmaking!). As you scroll through photos of their Hudson Table wedding reception, you’ll see they got exactly that! Marissa and Jeff both work demanding jobs, so they enjoy calm weekends where they get to eat, wander and explore a little, and enjoy each other’s company.
Their wedding reflected that effortless “we don’t have to try” vibe. The evening ended with them feeding each other some of their favorite black and white cookies, in lieu of a traditional cake cutting, as an added personal touch. It was perfect!
To add a personal touch, Marissa and Jeff curated custom playlists for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. Marissa’s playlist, in her own words, makes you feel like you’re back in high school, featuring memorable artists like Dashboard Confessional, Jack’s Mannequin, and more. I know they were some of my personal favorites! Waves of nostalgia were pouring over me the entire evening making it even more special.
Hudson Table Micro Wedding
Marissa and Jeff’s wedding has been an unforgettable highlight of 2023 thus far! Marissa also made a comment that she loved “accidental wedding art” moments, where detail shots are taken as they happen (instead of, for example, photos of the wedding day that are taken before guests arrived). As I hope you saw above, I was mindful of that and made sure to capture an abundance of candid moments and closeups of all of the gorgeous details of their day as it unfolded.
Despite the rain, their special day was truly remarkable. As a photographer, I absolutely adore capturing micro weddings for the unique energy they bring, and I am incredibly grateful they entrusted me to document their celebration. Thank you!
