Happy Cinco de Mayo! A few weeks ago, I shared a few of my favorite tips for preparing for engagement photos. From choosing engagement photo locations around New Jersey and New York, to what to wear, you can find all of those details here. Today, I want to take it one step further and share ideas for engagement photos that are unique to YOU. I love to get outside of the box with all of my couples.
I also couldn’t wait one more second to share Lisa and Grant’s dreamy engagement photo session. What better time to share a margarita picnic than on Cinco de Mayo? When I first talked to Lisa and Grant last summer, we talked about how they both loved margaritas. So we made some during their engagement photos!
Ideas for Engagement Photos
When you are looking for ideas for engagement photos, I always ask my couples what they love to do together. Embracing what you truly enjoy will always be better than trying an activity just to get photos that will look cool. We want your engagement photos to be authentic and truly reflect you as a couple. Your engagement photos are the start of the next chapter in your love story after all.
If you are having trouble convincing your fiancé that taking engagement photos for two hours is going to be a lot of fun, you are definitely not alone. But there is a reason I book engagement photos a little longer than the average photographer! I love to combine traditional engagement photo poses (which I talk more about below) with a fun activity that reflects you as a couple. For Lisa and Grant, they love margaritas so we busted out the tequila, set up a picnic blanket, and made some during their session.
If you are looking for other ideas for engagement photos, the options are endless. We can always take photos of you and yours playing a sport, walking down your favorite street, eating at a local restaurant you love. Some of my favorite engagement photos have actually taken place at the couple’s home! You can take photos playing a board game, relaxing on the couch, cuddling with your dog, whatever you two would typically do on a weekend or weekday night!
Lisa and Grant’s Classic Margarita Recipe
If your mouth is watering (like mine was during this session!), I asked Lisa and Grant to share their favorite classic margarita recipe! Proof that things don’t have to be fancy to be delicious.
- 3 oz of tequila
- 1.5 oz triple sec
- 2.5 oz lime juice
- 1.5 oz simple syrup
Don’t forget to salt the rim! That’s the best part.
Engagement Photo Poses
Although the thought of posing for two hours might not have you or your fiancĂ© excited, you are likely going to want some traditional engagement photos. These are the photos you can use on save the date cards, on social media announcing your engagement, and more. More than that, engagement photos are a great opportunity to try out some wedding day poses. Photos of you holding each other, a kiss on the forehead, a photo showing off the ring. Consider your engagement photos like your practice run. There’s nothing at stake (you can always have a redo – not that you’ll ever need one!). This way, you can focus on just having fun and trying new things together as a couple.
At Mile Square Moments, we always love to photograph couples in love. We don’t want you to be afraid of a little PDA in your photos. For Lisa and Grant’s engagement photos, we took some more traditional engagement photo poses at the margarita picnic location but we also snuck away to Court street in Hoboken – one of my favorite engagement photo locations in all of New Jersey.
