As much as we love New Jersey over here, we never turn down the opportunity to photograph weddings outside of the Garden State (whether they take place in New York like this one or worldwide). We are always ready for the adventure! Today, I am thrilled to share with you Kristy and Connor’s Long Island Elopement in New York. In the spirit of adventure, this couple planned their elopement in ONE WEEK. Seriously. It was the perfect way to spend a beautiful afternoon in Long Island City.
This was another collaboration with our friends at Murphy Studio. We absolutely love to work with them, so if you are a New Jersey wedding couple looking for photography and videography packages, make sure to check out our services here.
Getting Ready Before the Elopement
I don’t know how they managed it, but this couple got ready in their New York City apartment in different sections without seeing each other! It was so much fun to photograph them getting ready and also taking photos of the wedding day details around their home (and stunning marble countertops – we could not ask for a more perfect flat lay backdrop!). We love to get creative here at Mile Square Moments and it was fun to play with different angles and mirrors. A relaxed environment always leads to the best photos!
First Look Wedding Photos at Home
After defying all odds and getting ready while resisting the urge to take a sneak peek, we decided to have the first look wedding photos in the living room of their home in Queens, New York. It was so much fun! Plus, being at home, there was nobody else around and no liquor laws to worry about when we popped the champagne! Kristy and Connor were ready to celebrate!
Live Streaming their Long Island City Elopement
After the getting ready photos, we headed straight to the dreamy waterfront in Long Island City, New York. It was a “true” elopement, with just the two of them and the officiant (and Murphy Studio and Mile Square Moments to document – of course), but they set up a computer to livestream for close family and friends. Both of their parents joined from different locations (Connor’s tuned in all the way from Ireland!) and did some readings for the ceremony as well. It was so special.
Zoom weddings have become a new normal here in 2020 (we have talked about them on the blog before here). If you are going to invite your guests to a virtual wedding, this is definitely the perfect view.
Photos around Long Island City
After the ceremony, we headed to a few different classic Long Island City locations. I think in front of the Pepsi Cola building goes down in history as one of my favorites! I love the mix of urban in the city photos with the more natural water and garden backgrounds. When it is just the two of you, there is nothing but time so you can get all of the wedding photography you love.
By the way – here at MSM – we love when couples aren’t afraid of a little PDA so we can capture their natural chemistry. And these two certainly brought the heat! It was all sorts of magic.
Bride and Groom Wedding Face Masks
Another “new normal” thing to consider. 2020 has kept us on our toes. Although we spent most of the day outside, when the newlyweds headed back to Fifth Hammer Brewing Company for some celebratory drinks, they put on their simple but stunning bride and groom masks. Yes, there’s COVID but there is also fashion. These two looked too good for your everyday mask. His was black and hers was white – both simple and satin. Seriously, have you ever seen face masks look so good?
Cheers to the newlyweds!
We had so much fun photographing this Long Island City Elopement. Even though so many couples have been affected by rescheduling and last minute downsizing, we love celebrating with couples who just want to get married and celebrate their love together – no matter what! Seriously, now that you are at the end of the post, can you believe they planned their Long Island City elopement in less than a week? Romantic and spontaneous. Congratulations Kristy and Connor!
