Mary and Kevin met in the most traditional way…by swiping right. These two started their connection with a love of Irish music and Guinness, and the rest has been history. Over the last couple of years, it has been an honor to get to know them both. I couldn’t be more excited to share photos from their NYC wedding at The View at The Battery with you today! If you’ve been considering a winter or early spring wedding, you are going to love the outdoor portraits in particular! There is something about New York City that is effortlessly beautiful in every season.
New York City Wedding Photographer Review
Before I share more of their love story and NYC wedding photos, I just want to gush a little. After the wedding, Mary and Kevin left this incredibly sweet review. I spend a LOT of time getting to know my couples before their wedding day. To be honest, it’s one of my favorite parts of the job.
I also believe one of the biggest keys to capturing stunning wedding photos is having a thorough understanding of my couple’s wedding day timeline and vision for the day, and I’m always touched to hear it made a difference for the couple too. Seriously – I am beyond honored!
Working with Devin at Mile Square Moments was hands down the BEST decision we made in our entire wedding planning process. The quality of her work speaks for itself— she’s so incredibly talented. Equally as important, the actual experience was an absolute joy. From the very first meeting she made us feel relaxed and at ease. It was obvious she genuinely cared about getting to know us as a couple and wasn’t just there to snap pictures. We walked away from our engagement session feeling so happy and lucky that we were able to work with her; it was like we had found a hidden gem!
I would say that the biggest impact Devin had on us was in the final days and weeks approaching the wedding. Right when it felt like I was reaching my breaking point as a bride and couldn’t make another decision or figure out another dilemma, her phone calls, emails, and wedding day timeline was like having a guardian angel. We didn’t have a planner or coordinator and it became extremely overwhelming towards the end. If we didn’t have Devin’s help and guidance, we would not have had the same wedding day experience. It was the most joyful, happy day of our lives and we couldn’t feel more grateful for our experience with Mile Square Moments. Thank you Devin, a million times over!!

Getting Ready Before the Wedding at The View at The Battery
Before I share the getting ready details – I have to share their engagement story. Mary admits she can be a little Type A, and for 5 months before the proposal she was doing everything she could to figure out where and when it might happen. She had a collection of outfits on standby! I’m sure most of us can relate, right?
When Kevin decided to propose to her one weekend in December, he told her he was working yet tried to subtly stop her from making any plans. While she wasn’t necessarily onto him (she admitted the proposal was a complete surprise), she wasn’t willing to commit to no plans either. So on a random Tuesday at 11pm (after an evening of delicious food, flannel pajamas, and the Elf movie), Kevin got down on one knee and proposed in their living room. Shortly after – they got COVID and spent 10 blissful days of house arrest celebrating their engagement!
NYC Wedding Ceremony at Basilica of St Patrick’s Old Cathedral
Both Mary and Kevin got ready at Hyatt Centric Wall Street, so they would be nearby when it was time for the ceremony to begin. When I asked them both what they were most excited about on the wedding day, they agreed “getting to marry my best friend – everything else is just a bonus!”. Their ceremony was incredibly moving and I loved watching the two of them steal glances at one another. I also loved the fact that they had bagpipers play Irish music as they exited the church once they were married – it was such a sweet and personal touch!
Outdoor Wedding Portraits
Fellow couples looking for March wedding photo ideas in NYC, you’re in for a treat! After we left the church, we were a little ahead of schedule. When we arrived at The View at The Battery, I could sense that Mary and Kevin wanted to just take a moment with their family before rushing off to their wedding portraits. I will ALWAYS support a little downtime on a wedding day if your schedule allows it. That way, you are able to truly soak it all in. Then, when we were ready to head outside for portraits, these newlyweds were simply radiant. They were relaxed and fully present in each other’s company. We strolled around their wedding venue, capturing the beauty of their surroundings, before wrapping up just in time for cocktail hour.
Timeless, Elegant Wedding Decor
The classic white wedding color palette has been a timeless choice for generations, but it has become even more popular lately. And why not? Its elegant and captivating quality exudes pure sophistication. During Mary and Kevin’s wedding, I was absolutely in love with the delicate details and stunning decor that they had undoubtedly spent many hours handpicking for the occasion. Ultimately, their timeless and elegant wedding reception design was a beautiful reflection of their love and dedication to each other, and I loved capturing all of the detail shots before their guests arrived!
A Lively Wedding Reception to End The Evening!
While I did manage to sneak Mary and Kevin out for a few nighttime skyline photos, most of their cocktail hour and wedding reception was spent on the dance floor! It was so fun! It felt like every single time I snapped a photo, they were wearing their smiles from ear to ear. NOTHING makes me as happy on a wedding day as seeing my couples look this happy and in love. It was the perfect ending to the most memorable and incredible day.
NYC Engagement Photos
Finally, a feature of Mary and Kevin’s wedding at The View at The Battery wouldn’t be complete without their sweet NYC engagement photos. As a wedding photographer, I can tell you firsthand that a good engagement photoshoot makes all the difference on your wedding day. If you haven’t booked your engagement photos yet, here are some resources that will help you:
And so much more! One of the tips you’ll find in the posts above is to choose a meaningful location for your engagement photos. For Mary and Kevin, that included some photos at “Swift Hibernian Lounge” which was one of the bars they visited on their first date (during an Irish night!). Swift continues to be a special place for the two of them years later and they frequently visit on Tuesday nights to enjoy Irish music together and some of the best Guinness pints in the city.
