They say rain on your wedding day brings good luck, but I know that most couples are still crossing their fingers for clear skies! Listen, even if you are feeling nervous looking at the weather forecast, I’m here to tell you that rainy wedding days make for absolutely beautiful outdoor wedding photos. Chelsea and Guy’s photos from their wedding at Born to Run Farm are a perfect example of the moody, romantic style that I just love to create from rainy wedding days! I promise you they can be pure magic.
Born to Run Farm Wedding
If you are looking for an outdoor wedding venue in New Jersey, Born to Run Farm might just be the perfect place. For Chelsea and Guy, their relationship has that kind of low-key perfect energy that just radiates from them, and Born to Run Farm was the perfect venue for it! They both love to spend time together outdoors (going for a fantastic dinner and walking around outside is a regular occurrence!), so I knew that we would be okay come rain or shine.
Guy got ready at their home in Long Valley and Chelsea got ready at the gorgeous getting ready suite at Born to Run Farm. I loved photographing them in their natural elements, surrounded by close family and friends, and taking close-ups of all the gorgeous wedding details. Their fall wedding color palette of sage, terracotta, and cream was simply stunning.
Outdoor Wedding Photos Before the Ceremony
Guy usually hates getting his photo taken, so having the wedding photos before the ceremony ensured we could get the hard part out of the way! Truthfully, I’m always a big fan of couples having a first look because it truly helps you relax and be more present for the rest of the day. Chelsea and Guy’s first look was such a sweet moment – not that I had any doubt – and they really carried that “can’t take their eyes off one another” energy for the rest of the day.
After taking a few classic wedding couple portraits, their wedding party met us in the field to take some group photos! I absolutely loved the wildflower-esque bouquets and terracotta velvet bridesmaid dresses. The groomsmen looked equally daashing in their grey suits and terracotta ties!
Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at Born to Run Farm
Cue the rain. Guests took cover under umbrellas as they headed to Chelsea and Guy’s absolutely stunning outdoor wedding ceremony location. Their wedding ceremony was short, sweet, and extremely meaningful. Chelsea’s brother officiated, and two of her sister’s performed readings. Throughout the ceremony, Chelsea and Guy could not take their eyes off of one another. It’s those knowing stares and smiles that will get me every single time. You could feel the love they have for one another radiating. After the ceremony, their guests headed up to cocktail hour and Chelsea and Guy took a few more photos in front of their stunning triangle ceremony arch (that Guy built!). Then, they joined their guests for cocktails!
Outdoor Cocktail Hour
After the ceremony, the rain had let up a bit, so Chelsea and Guy were able to enjoy cocktail hour with their guests outdoors as they planned. Their signature cocktail – the Bee’s Knees – was a huge hit! Note to future couples: Guests love a signature cocktail. Chelsea and Guy mingled with their guests right up until they were ready for their grand entrance at the reception.
Outdoor Tented Wedding Reception
Chelsea and Guy’s wedding reception had all of the “traditional” elements (a first dance, a bouquet toss, cake cutting, etc.). Yet, it still felt so effortless and FUN! I know there is a tendency to scrap all tradition in 2022, but this is your reminder that you don’t have to cut anything out! I couldn’t be a bigger advocate for couples planning their wedding days their way. No matter what that looks like to you. Chelsea and Guy infused their personalities into the reception, too. With a pie bar (all baked by Chelsea’s stepmom!), a champagne pop in front of their neon wedding sign, and heart-shaped stroopwafles (a toast to their Danish roots!) as their wedding favors, this outdoor tented wedding reception was so unique and special to them.
A Fabulous Fall Wedding at Born to Run Farm
Overall, Chelsea and Guy’s wedding was the perfect way to kick off the fall wedding season and I could not have been more grateful to document this part of their love story. When I asked Chelsea and Guy what they were most looking forward to on their wedding day, they said they were excited to get a little fancy and see all of their favorite family and friends in the same room. For a couple that describes themselves as laidback and low-key, I loved that they could enjoy getting dressed up on their wedding day while still feeling true to themselves and enjoying each moment. Wishing them a big congratulations as they journey into their next chapter together!
