I can’t wait to share Apoorva & Tariq’s micro wedding story. In this post, you’ll notice a few familiar venues. Their wedding ceremony was at Van Vorst park and their wedding reception was at Porta restaurant in Jersey City. What I love most about their wedding though, was that it was completely unique to them. It was a sunset micro wedding in Jersey City, and because it was later in the year (they got married in November), it got dark quickly and the string lights at both the ceremony and reception venues felt absolutely magical. If you are planning your own wedding in New Jersey or New York, you can check out my wedding photography services below. I also offer videography packages with Alan at Murphy Studios!
Every time I get a chance to work with Love Wed Collective, it’s pure magic. Love Wed Collective was born from 2020 COVID restrictions. Everyone was stressed out trying to downsize their guest list. Nobody knew what to do. Everyone was deciding between postponing, downsizing, or both (hello, two weddings!). Love Wed Collective truly came together to help couples plan their micro weddings quickly! You can check out more about Love Wed Collective here (it’s basically wedding planning, photography, florals and calligraphy in one convenient package – but STILL personalized to you). As the preferred wedding photographer, I just feel so grateful to capture all of the micro wedding memories.
A Rooftop First Look Before the Wedding
I’ve talked about first looks on the blog before but really, I will never not take the opportunity to encourage you to see each other before the ceremony. A lot of times couples are worried that it’s going to take away that “aisle moment” but if anything, it allows you to enjoy more of your wedding day. When you get your bride and groom photos “out of the way,” you get to enjoy each other’s company. After photos, couples can really start to relax more. The anticipation to see your spouse can be intense, too. If you wait until the ceremony, you could find yourself so overwhelmed with emotion that it’s hard to be fully present as well. When you have a first look, you get to experience those emotions intimately together AND you get to experience them during the ceremony.
Apoorva & Tariq had their first look on a private rooftop. The view overlooking Jersey City was incredible. After the first look photos on the rooftop, I got to take a few photos of them walking the the ceremony location. Is there anything more charming than wedding photos against a classic city background? They are some of my favorites to take.
Sunset Jersey City Wedding at Van Vorst Park
Apoorva & Tariq wanted to have time to visit with their guests before the ceremony, so we made sure to arrive at Van Vorst Park early. They wanted to feel relaxed before the ceremony and with a smaller guest list, everyone there felt so special. Since they got married in November, it got dark fairly quickly (the sun set around 4:30 p.m.) and the gazebo absolutely sparkled with fairy string lights. Apoorva & Tariq stood in the center of the gazebo and their guests watched from below.
After the ceremony, their guests surprised them with a fun flash mob dance, which is quite normal for an indian wedding but was quite a surprise given the smaller guest list and change of plans. It really felt like their family and friends came through for them despite all the adversity of 2020. I love my job!
A Restaurant Micro Wedding Venue
When you have a large guest list, you are often confined to more traditional wedding and event venues. With a micro wedding, you can enjoy alternative venues like a good restaurant. I love the open air rooftop of Porta. The rustic atmosphere and family style dinner really holds the atmosphere of a micro wedding well. For Apoorva & Tariq’s wedding specifically, I loved how the string lighting design carried from the ceremony to the reception as well. It felt straight out of a fairytale.
Planning a Micro Wedding in 2021
I’ve really grown to love micro weddings over the past year. If you are planning a micro wedding in 2021 or 2022 and are looking for a photographer, make sure to inquire here sooner rather than later. I would also love to encourage you to check out Love Wed Collective. It really has been so much fun working with them and it’s been so rewarding to see micro weddings come to life together. I love that even though these weddings are “micro,” they never feel like you are sacrificing anything.
Congratulations, Apoorva & Tariq!
