Here at Mile Square Moments, we love a good elopement and micro wedding. But after the last year? It’s been nice to see more traditional weddings pop up in our calendar again. Ignore what you think about a traditional ballroom wedding – this stunning wedding at Hudson House absolutely blew me away. Julia and Anthony have a special kind of love that feels so effortless and joyful to be around. Their wedding gallery was not only filled with stunning wedding portraits (seriously – keep scrolling!) but also candids with some of the biggest smiles and sincere laughter I’ve ever captured in photos.
Looking back on their wedding gallery, I can’t help but feel like it’s the perfect representation of our goal here at Mile Square Moments, we want to capture the chemistry that naturally exists between each couple. This wedding was one of the first of 2022 and I can’t wait to share it with you all today.
Uniquely Personal Engagement Photos
If these two look familiar, you may be recognizing them from this post with fall and winter engagement photo inspiration. What I loved most about their engagement photo shoot was how uniquely personal it was to them. Anthony knew the bar owners where we started their engagement photos and they drank Manhattan’s as they did on their very first date. Their relationship has a completely effortless feel, which we wanted to capture in the photos. Even their proposal felt effortless – Anthony proposed to Julia in their living room on a Saturday morning still in their pajamas. He even captured the entire thing on his GoPro! These two are completely comfortable with one another and I felt so honored to capture their love story.
Jersey City Wedding Photographer Review
Before I share all the beautiful photos from their wedding day – I need to take a second and gush over this sweet review. I have had the absolute honor of photographing absolutely incredible couples over the last five years and Julia and Anthony are absolute proof of that!
I cannot begin to express how happy we are that we chose Devin and Mile Square Moments to capture our big day!
Devin was so incredibly warm, professional, and genuine throughout our entire experience. She shot our engagement photos a few months before the wedding which allowed her to get to know us, and allowed us to get more comfortable in front of her camera.
We were in constant contact before the wedding, and Devin made herself available for any questions or last minute calls. We had full confidence going into our wedding day. The day of, Devin was a source of calm. She was so amazing at keeping the wedding party on track with our timeline (even though we did NOT make it easy for her!) She went above and beyond, helping me communicate with other vendors and ensuring that the day flowed smoothly.
On to the output – the photos. Devin provided a ton of gorgeous previews the NEXT DAY! I was so thrilled to be able to post some highlights the day after the wedding. The quality of the photos perfectly captured the love, vibes and aesthetic of the day. When we received our full album, we were overjoyed. We’ll cherish these pictures forever!
Thank you for being so amazing, Devin & Mile Square Moments! 🙂
An Incredible Apartment Getting Ready Location
When Julia and Anthony told me that they would be getting ready at their apartment in Jersey City (in separate rented rooms), I didn’t know what to expect. Before you get to the photos, let me just tell you that I was absolutely blown away. As their Jersey City wedding photographer, I loved the abundance of natural light in each location. The Observatory rooftop location was absolutely to die for, and we not only shot detail photos there, but we set up their first look there as well (keep reading!). We had a little extra time during the guys getting ready photos so we headed downstairs for some fun car shots before we had to meet Julia and her bridal party back on the rooftop.
A Jersey City Rooftop First Look
We started with a first look between Julia and the groomsmen, which if you are looking to do something a little differently, I highly recommend. When it came to Julia and Anthony, I brought my second shooter with me so we could capture both of their expressions from multiple angles. Neither of them were a fan of the traditional “shoulder tap” during a first look, so we found a more natural way to have Anthony turn around as Julia approached. As I mentioned above, these two have the most genuine expressions and their first look did not disappoint.
Hudson House Wedding Photos
By now, it’s no secret that Hudson House is one of the most incredible wedding photo locations in Jersey City. Julia and Anthony rented a bus for their wedding party as they headed off to their wedding venue for the more traditional bride and groom portraits, as well as photos with their wedding party. I love when my couples book transportation because truly, the fun doesn’t stop for one minute on the wedding day. It’s a great way to keep up the energy and positive vibes while in between locations. Once we arrived at Hudson House, we jumped right into photos, but Julia and Anthony were such naturals in front of the camera it truly felt like we were all just friends having a great time.
A Modern Winter Wedding at Hudson House
It takes a special kind of wedding venue to look just as incredible in the winter as it does in the summer. That’s why I absolutely love Hudson House. Julia and Anthony absolutely poured themselves into making their wedding day memorable, and it was well worth the effort. Their ceremony was officiated by a close friend of Julia and Anthony’s, and it was intimate and personal. Ceremony photos are always some of my favorite of the day but the fact that Julia and Anthony are so expressive with each other made them even better.
An Evening Wedding at Hudson House
Throw away any notions you have about ballroom weddings because Julia and Anthony’s wedding at Hudson House will leave you awe-struck (at least, it did me!). Their guest list was kept intimate, not as small as some of the weddings I photographed in 2020/2021, but intimate enough that you could feel the love each and every one of their guests had for them fill the room. Julia and Anthony’s wedding reception was an absolutely incredible evening filled with first dances, touching speeches, and so much laughter. They wanted an evening with their closest family and friends under the same roof and it did not disappoint for even one second.
A Memorable Wedding at Hudson House
I was beyond honored to capture Julia and Anthony’s love for one another on their wedding day. All the laughter, the happy tears, every single emotion. This was one of the first weddings I shot in 2022 and it was the perfect way to kick off another year of weddings. I absolutely love my job. While I’m busy capturing love stories this year, I will be sharing weekly inspiration over here on the blog, so stay tuned! Julia and Anthony’s stunning wedding day is just the beginning!
